Reporting

At Bowen Road Primary School, we value strong communication between home and school. Below is an overview of how families are kept informed about their child’s learning progress each term. Families are always welcome to make a time with their child’s class teacher at any point during the year if they would like to discuss their child’s learning.

Term 1

Progress Report + Learning Plan Meetings

  • Families receive a progress report outlining their child’s learning, work habits and social skills.
  • Meetings are held with families to review and update Learning Plans.

Term 2

Mid‑Year Report + Learning Conversations

  • Families receive a report that includes evidence of learning samples.
  • Families are invited to a face‑to‑face Learning Conversation to discuss progress and next steps.

Term 3

Open Afternoon

  • Families are invited to attend an open afternoon where students proudly share evidence of their learning.
  • There is an opportunity for informal conversations with the class teacher.

Term 4

End‑of‑Year Report + Learning Plan Meetings

  • Families receive an end‑of‑year report summarising their child’s learning across the year.
  • Learning Plan meetings are held to update or review Learning Plans.

 

KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten students receive Kinder Development Checks (KDC) mid and end-of-year to show how children are progressing in key developmental markers.

These are complemented by a parent-teacher conversation in Term 2.  An open learning afternoon is also held in Term 3 so that students can share and celebrate their learning and participate in a learning activity with their family.

At the parent-teacher conversations, parents have the opportunity to look at Evidence of Learning (assessed samples of student work).

 

Assessment

Students from Prep to Year 6 are assessed regularly throughout the year in literacy and numeracy in accordance with the school’s Assessment Schedule. Ongoing assessment allows teachers to deliver responsive, targeted instruction that meets the individual learning needs of every student.

Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT)

Students in Prep to Year 6 participate in annual Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in Reading and Mathematics. These assessments provide valuable data on student growth over time and help inform teaching and learning programs.

NAPLAN

Students in Year 3 and Year 5 sit NAPLAN each March. This provides information about student performance in literacy and numeracy against national benchmarks.

Using Assessment to Support Learning

School‑wide assessment enables thoughtful planning and allocation of resources to support students’ learning needs. Families are welcome to inquire about their child’s assessment results at any time and are encouraged to discuss progress with the class teacher.
