Family Engagement

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT AT BOWEN ROAD

At Bowen Road Primary School, we value strong partnerships between home and school. Our Family Engagement Sessions are designed to build these connections by providing families with meaningful opportunities to understand, support, and celebrate their child’s learning.

These sessions usually take place on Tuesday afternoons from 2 pm and may include:

  • Information sessions that explain curriculum focus areas, school initiatives, and ways families can support learning at home.
  • Workshops and demonstrations led by teachers showing how reading, writing, numeracy, and other learning areas are taught.
  • Interactive learning sessions, inviting families to participate in classroom activities alongside their children.
  • Celebrations of learning, where students proudly share their projects, progress, and achievements.
  • Community‑building events that strengthen relationships between families, staff, and the wider school community.

Our aim is to make every family feel informed, welcomed, and empowered to be an active partner in their child’s education.

Parent / Community involvement – We encourage and welcome parents to become involved in our school activities and to support our class learning programs. Teachers will seek parent help as needed, primarily involving excursion support, reading support and art and craft support. There are many other ways to also help such as gardening, sporting events and School Association fundraising events. Just let your child’s class teacher or the office know if you would like to help.

Safeguarding for volunteers – Volunteers must also complete an online Mandatory Reporting module – go to  Safeguarding training for volunteers and external service providers – Department for Education, Children and Young People  Once completed please provide a copy to the school office.

Volunteers at the school must hold a Working with Vulnerable People card.. This takes about 20 minutes to complete.  Once completed, please provide evidence of this to the school office. To apply for a RWVP card go to www.justice.tas.gov.au

 

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The Bowen Primary School Association meets twice a term after school in the Library at 3pm. We love to see new faces and welcome new ideas. The date of our first meeting will be in the first newsletter of the year.  The Annual General Meeting is held in Term 1.

The School Association has held events such as Mothers/Fathers/Special person day stalls, a beginning of the year Welcome BBQ, a Colour Run, a Christmas and Easter raffle, pyjama days and contribute to the upgrading of school infrastructure such as the recent Mural painted on the outside of the Gym by a local artist and parent.

The School Association also plays an important role in:

  • Strengthening partnerships between the school, families, and the community.
  • Supporting school leadership in developing policies and priorities that reflect the needs of students.
  • Contributing to planning and decision‑making, including school improvement initiatives.
  • Providing feedback on school operations, policies, and programs.
