Specialist Classes and Enrichment

Leadership Days – Year 5 and Year 6

At Bowen Road Primary School, we offer Leadership Days for our Year 5 and Year 6 students to set a positive tone at the beginning of the school year. These days are designed to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and establish a shared sense of responsibility as our senior students step into their leadership roles.

Activities across the Leadership Days include:

  • a Mud Run for Year 6s –  encouraging resilience, fun, and stepping outside comfort zones
  • a range of collaborative challenges that promote teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving
  • opportunities to develop collective responsibility and understand what it means to be role models for the younger students

 

Enrichment Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

 

At Bowen Road Primary School, students have access to a range of programs that extend their learning and nurture individual interests and talents.

  • Chess Program (Years 3–6) – Students participate in regular chess classes that build strategic thinking, problem‑solving and patience.
  • Band and Choir – Our music program provides opportunities for students with an interest in performing arts to develop their skills and experience ensemble performance.
  • Lady Gowrie Childcare Reading Buddies – Students contribute to the community by reading with children at Lady Gowrie, building confidence, leadership and connection.
  • Children’s University – Students who opt in participate in learning experiences beyond the school day, recognising their efforts through passports and graduation ceremonies.
  • House Olympics – Each term, students engage in friendly House competitions that promote teamwork, school spirit and active participation.
  • Winter Sports – Year 5 & 6 students compete in Netball and Football with other schools in Term 2 and 3.

These enrichment experiences help students develop a sense of belonging, broaden their skills and interests, and build confidence beyond the traditional classroom environment.
